The following article is an opinion of our guest writer Nitin on the ongoing India-China conflict.

It’s been almost 5 months since “affair of honour” was started by China in May near Naku La, Sikkim with India. In the midst of the pandemic when the world is struggling to survive, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has used almost all means (may it be Muscle flexing in its neighbourhood, Economic show off or boasting about their advanced technology which is indeed stolen) to turn the tide in their favour which has gone against them because of public outrage over Wuhan-Virus.

A quick look at events in chronological order-

In November a minuscule level spread of the virus was reported in the wet market of Wuhan, China.

In December WHO said an outbreak has occurred in China but no Human-to-Human transmission is likely. Hence people all across the World need not worry. There were 2 reasons involved in making such an announcement-

  1. Chinese investments have increased in recent times in WHO and personal gains of the Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of WHO (World Health Organisation)
  2.  During the outbreak of Swine-flu in 2009 WHO declared it as a pandemic for which they were criticized as it wasn’t of much on a large scale.

In January, World realizes the upcoming chaos and started putting stringent checks on a few International airports.

In February, the count of the cases in China suddenly comes to a halt which has so been on top.

In March, bombardments of cases began All Around the World. Europe was the worst hit by that time. By that time India had 500 cases nearly. A strict lockdown was announced and people at the start did follow it with great pride, doctors, medical staff were given the title of “Corona Warrior”.

In April, certain reports started coming out of China which claims fallacy about their fatality figures which is still under doubt.

India-China Conflict

Now the actual story begins China tries incursion in Naku La, Sikkim which is a well-settled boundary unlike Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.

Information Warfare began from the Chinese side by their CCP (Chinese Communist Party) Mouthpiece- Global Times and CCGN-TV and various articles were published in many Indian Newspapers as well as praising Xi-Jinping.

The world started uniting by June after the Galwan Valley clashes in June. QUAD (an alliance of US, India, Japan, and Australia) which was earlier meant to have economic ties but with time has now turned to strategic ties to lock horns with China in the South China Sea.

Many Naval exercises took place in the past 2 months near the Straits of Mallaca which is one of the fault lines of China. It is the path via which China’s 70-80% crude oil is transported.

China has shifted its strategic approach which was once covert in nature during the time of Mao Zedong or Chou En-Lai to overt under Xi-Jinping.

The book “Art of War” by San Tzu is very much followed out there.

India’s approach so far –

In the David vs. Goliath battle, David (India) has so far been very restrictive in its approach yet effective.

India is arming up Andaman and Nicobar Islands at a very rapid pace so that in future if required a choke point can be utilized to cut off energy supplies to China via the Strait of Mallaca.

India working on Iran Chabahar Port (Iran) – Zahedan (Afghanistan) Railway Project to counter China’s CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) and Gwadar Port.

India is also moving ahead with soft power diplomacy in near regions like Afghanistan, Iran, Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asia Nations) even during this pandemic.

India has helped many African countries too by providing medical support to counter the Chinese influence in the African Continent.

India aims to sit on the high table of UNSC yet there is a long road to travel and to make it peaceful the Dragon must be tamed counter-offensive.
