What is Odin/JOdin? How To Flash A Samsung Phone Using It?

JOdin (Also called Odin/Jodin3) is a tool for Samsung which is used to unroot or flash your Samsung Android Smartphone or to update your phone manually. It does communicate with your PC and Samsung smartphone via USB cable. If you want to flash stock ROM using  Mac then install Jodin and Heimdall. For Windows users, simply download Odin from sammobile.

Jodin: Steps for windows:

  1. Download Odin, Samsung USB drivers, and firmware file(make sure it is for your device model only) and extract.
  2. Install Samsung drivers.
  3. power off your phone and connect to your PC using the USB cable.
  4. Go to download mode on your phone by pressing the Home key(in S8 series and Note 9 Bixby button), Power key and volume down key at the same time.
  5. Now Odin will display the message as connected.
  6. After going into download mode open Odin and click on PDA or AP then locate the firmware file you downloaded.
  7. Click start and it’ll start flashing.
  8. Make sure that battery level should be at least 60% or more before starting.
  9. Now after the message appears as ‘PASS’, your device is successfully flashed.

Steps for Mac:

  1. First of all, uninstall Samsung Kies (if installed).
  2. Download firmware file from sammobile (make sure it is for your device model only) and extract.
  3. Download latest version of JAVA from here.
  4. Install Heimdall.
  5. Go to download mode on your phone by pressing the Home key(in S10 series and Note 9 Bixby button), Power key and volume down key at the same time.
  6. In Heimdall download Pit file by entering the model no.
  7. Now open the JOdin app and go to PDA tab then locate the firmware file you downloaded.
  8. Click start and it’ll start flashing.
  9. Now after the message appears as ‘PASS’, your device is successfully flashed.

Update: Odin/JOdin for Linux!

  • Install java (at least 8)
    • java -version
  • Package Manager
    • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
    • sudo apt update
    • sudo apt install oracle-java9-installer
  • Download jodin3 .gz file, decompress it to any folder
  • then right-click on the file “JOdin3CASUAL” and open it, if you have installed Java 8.
