The system software is a computer program that is used to run computer hardware and user applications. If we consider a layered architecture, it acts as an interface between computer hardware and user applications.
The best example of system software would be an OS (operating system). there are some other important examples of system software such as
- BIOS (Basic I/O System)
- A boot program
- System utilities like disk defragmenter, system recovery
- Compiler, Debugger
- Device drivers
